Need to buy a domain name?

If you want an international domain (eg, .com) I highly recommend Register.com as they provide a lot of extras for free and it's very easy to manage your server details yourself. A .com name currently costs US$35/year - that's a little more expensive than some registrars, but I think it's worth it for the ease of use and control that you have over your domain name. You can direct a .com domain yourself if you buy it through Register.com, so there's no need for your ISP to be involved.

If it's a regional domain you want (eg .com.au or au.com) you might need to use a different domain registrar. You can often buy these through your ISP, who will organise assigning the domain to your space. You can also buy a domain name directly. It will cost around AUD$140 for two years for a .com.au domain registration, but your ISP may then charge to assign the name to your actual site. Check with your ISP for their domain-related costs before you pay a registrar for anything.
