I've
always loved medieval graphics, and when I first got onto the web
a few years ago I was surprised at how little of this material was
available online. Most academic sites were started in the early
days of the web, and have not followed the mainstream trend of interactivity
and pictorial content.
Medieval
artwork translates so well to the web. Woodcuts make excellent fast-loading
transparent gifs, and parchment and marble are great for unobtrusive
backgrounds.
I
have a wide range of bold black and white woodcut graphics with
themes from religious to botanical and decorative.
I
also have gilt paintings and stained-glass style colour pictures
for a rich sumptuous feel if loading speed is not of great importance
for your site.
I
usually obtain pictures from academic sources and clean them up
digitally. These images are unlikely to be legally available from
any other source.
The
graphics are complemented by fonts and backgrounds from the period,
creating an overall medieval look suitable for a wide range of businesses.
If
you're a web designer, I sell individual graphics - let me know
what you need and I'll search through my collection to find suitable
pictures. I can then provide these in a format and size to suit
your needs. Prices vary according to the usage. An e-commerce site
with high-volume traffic will pay more than an individual homepage.
Although all my original sources are over fifty years old, I maintain
copyright on all the graphics due to the amount of digital manipulation
required to make them suitable for use.
I
also have a site of free
medieval graphics for non-commercial use.
