Planning - Making a Sitemap

To the left is the site content as provided to me by a client, along with the adaptations we made to suit a site layout in our first consultation. If you EVER get a client this well organised who provides you with a proposed layout in the first meeting, count your blessings!

As you can see, we adapted it a bit so that there are a smaller number of short, to-the-point titles for the main navigation, and we've grouped the content into those headings logically.

In this particular example, it was important to keep it clean, simple and easy to navigate as the business deals with people with disabilities. We'll be covering more about accessibility a little later. The structure we decided upon was:

HOMEPAGE (with introduction)

SERVICES Summary
> Quality
--> Quality Systems
--> Training
--> Internal Audits
--> Standards Monitoring
> Disability Access
--> Training
--> Disability Service Plans
--> Evaluations
--> Audits
> Consulting
--> Recent Experience (eg client list)

RESOURCES Summary
> Newsletter
--> Archive of Previous Newsletters (html, pdf and Word format if possible)
> Posters
> FAQs, perhaps broken down into categories.
> Links, perhaps broken down into categories eg:
--> Government Services
--> Advocacy etc

ABOUT US Summary
> Complaints Procedure (link to appropriate Govt body, advocacy groups etc)
> People
--> Company history
--> Principal Staff profiles with photos
> Our Commitments
--> Privacy Policy
--> Equity, Accessibility (mission statement etc)
> Contact (location map etc)

SITEMAP

In all likelihood, it will change a bit as I start to build the site, show the client the first functioning draft, receive more content from them, etc - but it's a strong and well thought-out foundation, so I'm ready to start building.
