Fonts > Vector vs Raster : Font Collecting : Anti-aliasing : Using fonts : Making Titles : Effects : Dingbats font collectingAs I've mentioned, I have a LOT of fonts installed. Try to keep your installed fonts under about 500, or it can cause a few problems with your computer. I go through and prune mine down occasionally, but I'm always finding new ones I love so I never quite manage to keep down the overall number. The free font scene, like much of the freeware scene, has become a bit overloaded with ads and you can go round in circles with perpetual pop-ups before you ever find any content. Here are a few sites that I use that area cut above your average freeware font site. Some are designers who offer samples of their fonts for free, others are listing sites with updated lists and descriptions of hundreds of free font sites - most are aimed at PC systems rather than Mac. To install on a PC, you usually download the zip to your local drive, unzip it and then from 'fonts' on your control panel, find and install the new font - easy! Remember these people make these for our benefit and don't get paid, so please always respect their rules and give them a link-back if you can. Actual fonts: nicksfonts.com
- Lovely retro fonts, both free and commercial. Gorgeous! Listing sites: www.maryforrest.com/fonts/index.html And if you want to get really serious about fonts, try this resource: |
Note: email me if any of these links are dead - unfortunately that happens a lot to free sites! Last checked 31 January 2004 |
