buttons

Buttons, like banners, are a standard way to advertise your site. Since they're much smaller, they're a lot easier for other people to fit onto their site. As I'll discuss later, getting people to link to you is more critical than ever for driving traffic. Linkages now also affect your search engine positioning, in addition to the actual direct traffic you get from a link from someone else's site. Making some buttons is well worth the effort.

A standard button is 88 x 31 pixels. Buttons don't take long to make, so make a range that includes animated and static, and ones that will suit a range of colour schemes (although they should also reflect the look of your site, since you want to attract readers who like that look). If you're tempted to use transparency, remember that it may end up on a background of an inappropriate colour and look bleagh. Better to just avoid it, really.

retrokat - quite nice sites

If you don't want to design your own buttons from scratch, there are some great sites where you just need to add your own text to their buttons (in exchange for a link-back). Eg:
