So you want to establish your place on the web? Firstly, decide if you have enough money to pay for a "real" web presence. For a little over a hundred dollars a year, you can get hosting, a domain and a non-ISP dependant email address. This will make you appear a lot more legitimate, as well as being a hundred times more convenient and stable. I'll go into this in more detail over the next few pages.

Plan B if you have NO money at all, is to use the free services available and put up with the visual pollution and inconvenience of being swamped with ads in return for these services. Oh, and sometimes they won't work. Or might disappear altogether. But hey, I know what it's like to not have a hundred dollars, so here's a run-down of what to do to establish a free website:

Firstly, you should get a free web-based email address for use with the site. This will help if you move the site later on, as the email address can remain the same. It can also help you maintain your privacy and keep spam (unsolicited junk email) under control.

Once you have an email for the site, you need to secure webspace to house it in. Thirdly, it will need a good name - a catchy URL address that's easy to remember, easy to promote and will bring in traffic.
