MUSIC OF THE MIDDLE AGES

Medieval music, or "Early Music" as they call it in the shops, has an astounding variety. From the haunting drone of religious chants to the charming songs of chivalry, from delicate harp to rowdy drinking songs. The music of the Middle Ages was as richly varied as their art, and yet is sadly neglected today apart from an enthusiastic minority who recreate it as faithfully as possible.

This is just a web-based mock-up of my project. Of course I cannot include the music which will be (hopefully) contained in full in the CD-ROM version, but if you wish to find the music for yourself, the tracks are as follows:

Henry Purcell: Birthday Song for Queen Mary
Traditional: E l'mare e l'pare from "Songs of Chivalry"
Francesco Landino: Nel mio dolce from "The Medieval & Renaissance Harp"

Hildegard of Bingen: Various from " A Feather on the Breath of God"

Rigatti: Magnificat from "Early Music Sampler Vol 2"
